Leap ST is an advanced handheld 3D metrology solution. A compact, high accuracy scanner with five operating modes, Leap ST offers versatility and portability that benefits various workflows and industries, from aerospace and automotive to transportation equipment and metals fabrication and more.

The five modes include: Ultra-fast scanning for fast coverage to measure part features for small to medium parts, Hyper fine scanning for capturing details of complex objects with maximum resolution , Photogrammetry to maintain best accuracy over large sized objects , Deep hole scanning for maximum allowable depth with hard-to-reach areas and deep holes , and Large-area scanning ideal for capturing large features that need to be inspected, or when a first rough scan of a medium to large part is required.

Fast Setup, Accurate Results

Save time and increase confidence in your results with the ability to scan a wide variety of parts and assemblies. With less time needed to prepare the part before scanning and to restore it to its original pre-preparation state, users can scan more parts faster, leading to greater throughput.

Maximum Versatility

The five operating modes allow for the measuring of larger parts, as well as complex, harder-to-access features like deep holes and fine details common in an engine chassis, eliminating the need to use additional metrology devices, getting more done with the same system. The scanner is directly compatible with leading metrology software but can also be used with the available software development kit (SDK) for integration into your own software or automated measurement system.

The optical configuration allows for large target interdistance, saving you time applying targets to your parts. The seamless switch between operating modes enables users to continuously capture exactly what is needed without pausing the scan and go back to the computer.

Short Learning Curve

Leap ST’s software integration means that there’s a minimal learning curve. The product is capable of scanning into FARO CAM2 Scan Professional Software, part of the CAM2 Editions Software portfolio. It is also compatible with other leading metrology software. Whichever software platform is selected, users have the flexibility to inspect parts in their preferred environment, avoiding additional costs of training and maintenance and reducing the need for differentiated skill sets.

Ultra-fast Scanning

Leap ST’s main operating mode, multiple lasers allow for fast coverage and greatly assist in identifying features allowing for data capture across the entire field of view.

Hyper fine Scanning

7 parallel lasers are used at a limited standoff distance for the highest possible point density (down to 0.010). The mode can be used locally within an ultra-fast scanning workflow and allows for high resolution features to be added to a dataset only where a high density is needed, keeping the overall 3d model light and manageable for consecutive processes.

Deep Hole

The unique laser line is triangulated according to the baseline between the projector and one camera. By reducing the baseline, the ability to scan inside holes increases drastically, allowing the ability to inspect even the most challenging features in hard-to-reach areas to the maximum allowable depth.

Large-area Scanning

11 parallel infrared laser lines enable a large scanning area, ideal for measuring medium to large parts when large features need to be inspected or when a first rough scan of a medium to large part is required.

Photogrammetry

Used to decrease the accumulated error introduced by the length of the trajectory and may be of help with other scan modes or workflows. While traditional photogrammetry requires several accessories, everything you need to perform photogrammetry with FARO Leap ST is inside the box, scale bars included.

In-Process Parts Inspection 

Identifying errors further upstream in the manufacturing process is key to reducing rework, waste, scrap and the need to monitor that production processes are still within tolerance. With fewer targets to place, faster scanning, and industry-leading measurement technology, users will be able to reduce downtime and gain intelligence on process trends. Not just knowing when a part or a machine is out of tolerance, but when it’s heading in that direction. The possibility to integrate Leap ST into an automated metrology solution allows production managers to enable an automated monitoring of their process.

Intricate and complex shapes are hard to design or inspect without scan data. What’s more, existing parts may not have a digital history to re-use for design purposes, delaying the development process and go-to-market. With Leap ST, intricate shapes can be 3D scanned with minimal setup and capturing time, allowing data to be used for reverse engineering or CAD modeling, accelerating time to market.

Combined with an excellent data rate, manufacturers can scan parts with one tool that does it all.

High Accuracy Scanning

With an accuracy range of up to 20 microns, Leap ST is ideal for any scanning workflow that requires large area coverage, like automotive applications, aerospace, shipbuilding and more. It further allows users to scan large areas on site without the need for device repositioning and alignment. Not only is Leap ST adaptable for a wide range of uses, but how it’s used is entirely up to you. 

Any Surface Scanning

Leap ST can master different surfaces without impacting scan quality. Multiple scan modes increase the application fit on complex inspections as well as provide a solution for specific tasks.

High Target Distance

Thanks to a combination of a highly efficient optical configuration and cutting-edge algorithms, users only need to place a limited number of targets on parts, an approach that reduces the time required to setup and proceed with the scan. Fast scans that don’t sacrifice quality, are the hallmark of Leap ST.  

Integration Ready

The use of the available Software Development Kit (SDK) and the available mechanical mounting of the Leap ST scanner allows a seamless integration into industrial systems for fully automated manufacturing and assembly workflows.
